Late 60's Black/Pink Chiffon Gown by John Charles of London

Vintage designer wear by John Charles of London. This dress dates from the late 1960's early 1970's.  Long-length, black evening gown with roll-neck collar. There are five fabric covered buttons decorating the left side of the dress. Acetate lining with black chiffon overlay and hot-pink, chiffon trim.  Spectacular bell-shaped sleeves with corresponding pink trim. Rear enclosed metal zip with hook fasteners at the top. Made in England. Dry clean only.  Labelled John Charles of London.

JOHN CHARLES
Designer Cherry Price founded the John Charles label in 1958, concentrating on special occasion wear.  They were known in the 70's and 80's for party and dress-up occasion dresses that had a decidedly feminine look.  Under the ownership of Regine Ellis, dressy collections are still produced for John Charles by designer Linda Warren (written by vintage-voyager.com for the Vintage Fashion Guild Label Resource).

The measurements provided are of the actual garment.  There is no stretch in the fabric.  If you measure smaller, this dress should fit you.  Suitable for a modern day UK 10-12 (US 6-8).

Dress measures:
Width across back, shoulder to shoulder 15½" (39cm)
Chest 36" (91.5cm)

Very good. There is one pin hole at the back on the chiffon, left side, in between waist and shoulder.  It's very difficult to notice unless you look very closely.  There's also a very faint mark at the right armpit (see photo bottom left). Again, this isn't noticeable and doesn't spoil the over all quality of the dress.

Early 1970's Sun Dress by Rose-Marie Reid

Made from high quality polyester knit - it has a very smooth texture.

Labelled Rose Marie Reid from the limited edition range.  After doing some research on this designer, it's difficult to know for sure whether this dress was actually designed by Rose-Marie Reid, or whether it was licensed under her name.  She would have been in her late sixties at the time this dress was manufactured.
